A six-foot-long(1.88 meter) Nile monitor lizard escaped its enclosure and was on the loose in Teller County, Colo., police said Tuesday.

Emergency notifications went out to residents in the Woodland West, Westwood Lakes and Rosewood Hills subdivisions between the Colorado communities of Divide and Woodland Park that care needs to be exercised if meeting the lizard, KRDO-TV reported Tuesday.

“It‘s a large reptile, at least 25 pounds, and it can be aggressive. We want the people in those areas to know so they could keep on eye on their pets and small children,”said Teller County Sheriff Mike Ensinger.

The owner of the lizard, who declined to give his name but pointed out his pet’s name is Dino, said, “He looks dangerous, but he‘s a very gentle lizard. He’s not a threat to anybody,”adding that he did not think Dino would eat any animal larger than a prairie dog.(UPI)

화요일 KRDO-TV의 보도에 따르면 우드랜드 웨스트, 웨스트 우드 레이크, 그리고 로즈우드 힐즈에 비상경보가 발령되었다. 도마뱀과 마주치게 되면 각별한 주의가 요구된다.

텔러 카운티의 보안관 마이크 엔싱어는 “굉장히 큰 파충류죠, 최소한 25파운드(11kg 정도)가 나가고, 공격적일 수 있습니다. 경계경보를 받은 지역의 주민들은 이 사실을 숙지하고 애완동물과 어린 아이들에게 각별한 주의를 주어야 합니다”라고 말했다.

이름을 밝히기를 거부한 도마뱀의 주인은 그의 애완동물 이름이 ‘디노’라고 밝혔다. 그는 “그 녀석은 무섭게 생겼지만 굉장히 착한 녀석입니다. 절대로 누군가에게 위협이 되지 않습니다.”그는 디노가 프레리독보다 큰 동물을 먹으리라고는 절대 생각하지 않는다고 밝혔다. 프레리독은 몸무게가 대략 1kg 정도 나가는 다람쥣과의 포유류이다.
