한국의 철도는 과연 안전한가
항공기 탑승을 두려워하는 사람은 많지만 기차를 두려워서 못 타는 경우는 적다. 그러나 최근 대구 역에서 일어난 3중 열차 추돌 사고를 포함한 연속된 경미한 사고들로 인해 국민들은 국내에서 가장 선호도가 높은 여행수단 중 하나인 기차의 안전성에 대해 의심의 눈초리를 보내고 있다.감사원에 따르면 2011년 KTX 고속철도와 관련된 사고만 130여건이 발생했다 감사원은 책임의 상당 부분을 코레일에 돌렸다. 현대로템에서 제조한 KTX-산천 기차에 결함이 있다는 것을 알면서도 이를 구매했다는 이유 때문이다.대구 사고와 관련해 국토교통부와 경찰 관계자들은 사고의 원인을 “인적 과실”라고 결론 내렸다. 국토교통부는 사건 조사 결과를 10월 중에 공개 할 예정이다. 본지가 코레일에 대구 열차사건에 관해 문의했을 때 진행중인 조사를 언급하며 사건이나 전반적인 안전절차에 대한 공식답변을 거부했다.한편 코레일의 안전기준을 지난해 3개월간 조사한 비영리 인증검사기관인 로이드 레지스터사(Lloyd’s Re
