Police said Tuesday they had found that a man who pretended to be a passenger of a mystery friend who had run away after hitting a parked bus had in fact caused the accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Incheon Sangrok Police Station, the suspect drove his car into a bus in Sangrok-gu, Incheon at around 5:45 p.m. on Monday. He then destroyed the SIM card in the black box of his car and sat in the passenger seat, to hide his drunk driving.

When the police arrived on the scene, he said his friend had caused the accident and fled the scene because the supposed friend did not have a driver's license. But the police checked the surveillance images of CCTV around the area and found that it was him who was driving.

The suspect's blood alcohol content level was over the 0.048 percent threshold for revoking one's driver's license.
