In the small county of Goesan-gun, North Chungcheong Province, a man has been anonymously leaving donations for district officials over the past three years, amounting to a little over 90 million won ($68,000) since 2021.

Goesan-gun Office said the unidentified middle-aged man made his most recent contribution on Monday, when he left an employee of the resident welfare team at the Buljeong-myeon office a paper bag, which contained 400 50,000 won bills. He mouthed "I'll leave it here" to the employee, who had been responding to another resident's request.

The man has left donations at the office multiple times since 2021, each ranging from 2 million to 20 million won. His identity remains a complete mystery, although the Buljeong officials said it is always the same man and speculated that he is a town resident.

According to the employee who received the latest contribution, he was wearing glasses and was dressed in plain clothes. He also had graying hair, indicating that he is somewhere in his late 50s or early 60s.

"The efforts by 'the angel' have been a heart-warming experience for everyone at the office," said Buljeong-myeon office chief, Lee Jae-gyeong. "We plan to spend his donations to help underprivileged residents and households who are in the blind spot of the welfare system here."
