Han Hee-sup, a professor in the department of hospitality and tourism management at Sejong University, has been selected as one of the world's most influential researchers in 2023.

Organized by Clarivate, a global information analytics company, the "Highly Cited Researchers" list recognizes the top 1 percent of researchers in 21 fields based on the number of times their papers have been cited over the past decade.

Han was selected as a highly cited researcher for a fifth consecutive year since 2019. Regarding the humanities and social sciences field, he is the only Korean researcher to have secured the title for the past five years.

His research centers around rapidly changing technologies, including central bank digital currency, urban air mobility, the metaverse, artificial intelligence, robotic services, chatbots and drones.

"It is a great honor to be selected as an HCR for the fifth consecutive year. I am very grateful to my co-authors and graduate students who are always working diligently even at this moment," said Han. "It gives me great pleasure to know that my and my colleagues' research is being read and cited by many scholars and contributing to academia and industry."

"Currently, Korea and many other countries are grappling with a declining birth rate and an aging population. We are actively planning and conducting research on some of the most pressing issues facing Korea," Han added.

This year, 6,849 researchers from 67 countries around the world were nominated in the list. Han is among 65 researchers from Korea who are on the list this year.
