필자는 매 회 토익 시험을 보는 토익 450여회 최다응시 만점강사이다. 시중에 토익 책들이 많은데 여기에 일부 교재에는 나오지만 전체적으로는 잘 다루지 않는 단어들을 모으고 있다. 일본에 수출할 토익 단어책을 위해 일본 토익교재 토익단어 목록도 정리해서 가지고 있다. 그런 단어들이 그리 많지 않고 모으기도 쉽지 않다. 한회 시험 보면 한 두 개씩 모아지는 작업이다.

이 단어들을 코리아 헤럴드 독자들과 3주에 걸쳐 공유한다. 일부교재에는 나오지만 여러 교재에서 잘 다루지 않는 단어들도 포함했다. 영어학습하는 모든 분들에게 도움이 되는 실용단어들이다! 한국 일본 어느 책에도 잘 나오지 않는데 중요한 단어들에는 *표시를 해두었다.

*1. imposing: 위풍당당한, 위압적인(= dominant, majestic, commanding, grand, impressive, magnificent, awesome, dignified, splendid)

(ex) He was an imposing man. 그는 당당한 남자였다.

The imposing mountain range loomed ahead of us. 웅장한 산맥이 눈앞에 펼쳐졌다.

8. disposed: 버려진

The 애인 스마트폰 '몰래 보기' 안된다.."비밀침해죄로 형사처벌 대상" (민식) items are now in the recycling bin. 폐기된 물품은 이제 재활용 쓰레기통에 넣는다.

*9. dissolve: 녹이다, 용해하다

Dissolve the sugar in warm water. 따뜻한 물에 설탕을 녹이다.

10. unsolve: 풀리지 않다

Despite many attempts, the mystery remains unsolved. 많은 시도에도 불구하고 미스터리는 여전히 풀리지 않고 있다.

11. ongoing: 지속적인

The construction is an ongoing project in our neighborhood. 이 공사는 우리 동네에서 진행 중인 프로젝트이다.

12. permeate: 스며들다

*16. strenuous: 힘이드는

17. discharged: 면제된, 제대한

After being discharged from the army, he returned to school. 제대 후 그는 학교로 돌아왔다.

18. affix: 붙이다 , 첨부하다

Please affix your signature to the bottom of the contract. 계약서 하단에 서명을 하시오.

*19. requisite skills: 필요한 기술

Accreditation(인증) requires demonstrating the requisite skills for the job.

20. inviting 매력적인, 아늑한

The warm, inviting ambiance of the cafe made it a favorite among the locals. 따뜻하고 아늑한 분위기의 카페는 현지인들이 즐겨 찾는 장소가 되었습니다.

21. haul a load: 짐을 끌다

The truck had to haul a load of furniture across the country. 트럭은 많은 가구를 전국으로 운반해야 했다.

22. turbulence: 난기류
