Amorepacific Group, a leading cosmetics company here, announced a plan on Wednesday to use less plastic to safeguard health and the environment. Wednesday was Earth Day.
The company’s “less plastic” campaign consists of three actions: to reduce the use of plastic packaging for its products, to recycle more of its plastic packaging and to increase the use of upcycled materials to produce its products.
“We will continue to stand up front in creating a happier, more beautiful and healthier world as a responsible company citizen in 2020,” Suh Kyung-bae, chairman of Amorepacific, said.
The company explained that it was still collecting empty cosmetics cases and upcycling them as part of its ongoing Greencycle campaign. Upcycling involves using discarded materials to produce higher-value items.
In 2019, it inked a business agreement with TerraCycle, a global recycling firm, to recycle a minimum of 200 tons of plastic cases every year for three years. Under the agreement, the company said it aims to recycle 100 percent of the used bottles it collects annually and to use them in 50 percent of its new products by 2025.
