The Korean Cultural Center in Spain, in conjunction with the Embassy of Spain in Colombia, introduced four films directed by women at its second Korean & Latin American Film Screening, which took place Oct. 15-24.

“The Korean & Latin American Film Screening evening is a project planned by the Korean Cultural Center in Spain. Last April Argentina was selected as the guest country of honor, followed by Colombia,” Yi Chong-yul, director of the Korean Cultural Center in Spain, said. 

“Colombia is the only Latin American country that fought in the Korean War and a valuable partner that has signed an FTA with South Korea. Amid the Hallyu boom, cultural exchange between Korea and Colombia has greatly increased.”

Korean and Colombian movies directed by women -- “Mateo” (2014) by Maria Gamboa, “The Dragon Defense” (2017) by Natalia Santa, “The Truth Beneath” (2016) by Lee Kyong-mi and “Little Forest” (2018) directed by Yim Soon-rye -- were screened under the theme “women’s perspective in film.”

Some 80 people attended the opening ceremony Oct. 15. They included officials from the Colombian Embassy in Spain, diplomatic envoys from Latin American countries such as Uruguay and Chile, and Colombian immigrants living in Spain.
