An association of Asian doctors performing traditional medicine said Monday that they have decided to invite their colleagues from North Korea to a international meeting slated for 2019.

The members of the Global University Network of Traditional Medicine agreed during a meeting held in Beijing last month to ask Pyongyang Medical University to take part in the gathering in Hong Kong.

Under the proposal, the GUNTM members plan to ask Pyongyang Medical University to send non-member representatives to the annual meeting, they said.

The GUNTM is a multilateral academic network established to effectively promote traditional East Asian medicine with members from South Korea, China, Australia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Its meetings allow those in the profession to follow the latest trends and share ideas on treatment methods.

The invitation was first proposed by professor Lee Jae-dong, who currently heads Korean medicine department at Kyunghee University in Seoul.
