Culture Minister Do Jong-hwan will leave for New York on Saturday to attend the United Nations General Assembly to adopt the Olympic Truce, the ministry said Friday.
While in the US, the minister will be engaged in a slew of promotional activities for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. He is set to host a reception, hold a media briefing and give press interviews, said the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in a press release.
The minister will be accompanied by a South Korean delegation including Lee Hee-beom, chief of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games and Kim Yu-na, a figure skating champion and Honorary Ambassador for the games.
According to the UN, "All conflicts ceased during the period of the Truce, which began seven days prior to the opening of the Olympic Games and ended on the seventh day following the closing of the Games, so that athletes, artists, their relatives and pilgrims could travel safely to the Olympic Games and afterwards return to their countries."
The truce will be adopted at the UN headquarters on Nov. 13 (local time). (Yonhap)
