Korea Airports Corp. announced its midterm goals for 2025 on Monday, focusing on improving infrastructure, strengthening security and training more pilots.

The corporation will invest about 1 trillion won ($856.5 million) on expanding infrastructure at major airports such as Gimpo International Airport to accommodate increasing passenger numbers by 2018. It is also working to renovate old airport facilities nationwide by 2019.

Airports will be outfitted with a smart security system to strengthen screening processes and have better protection against earthquakes by 2018. The new system will expand the functions of the central control room in preventing terrorist attacks and facilitating safe aircraft operations. 

In the first half of this year, KAC plans to implement an advanced training program for pilots, reducing the dependence on training programs abroad.

The corporation is also preparing to build and operate new airports in Gimhae, Jeju, Ulleungdo Island and Heuksando Island to “contribute to national development.”

According to the KAC, its vision for the next four years will focus on four core principles: “customers first,” “leading innovation,” “respecting employees” and “site focus.” 

These goals will be officially announced at a ceremony Wednesday at the Mayfield Hotel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
