Supreme Railways held a special event offering two free tickets Tuesday to their first customers at three different stations for the company’s new high-speed rail service that will begin operation next month.

Customers who bought the day’s first tickets at Suseo, Dongtan and Jije stations were awarded two free Super Rapid Train tickets in the promotion.

“I have planned for a trip with friends for the past year upon hearing that SRT was launching,” said Park Byeong-gyu, 70, who was one of the winners after purchasing eight round tickets from Suseo to Busan for December.

The new rail service is set to operate from Dec. 9 on two routes from Suseo to Busan and Mokpo.

SRT tickets can be bought from SR’s website www.srail.co.kr, the SRT App or any railway station that has self-service ticket machines.

The SRT fares are set at 52,600 won for the Suseo-Busan route and 46,500 won for the Suseo-Mokpo route, making them about 10 percent cheaper than KTX. Discounts of between 30 to 100 percent will be given to 100,000 customers who sign up for a SR membership by Wednesday. (khnews@heraldcorp.com)
