North Korea has requested a German relief organization to set up a clinic in its flood-damaged North Hamgyong Province, a US broadcaster, monitored here, said Wednesday.

The North's health ministry made the request while saying that schools and hospitals as well as houses there have been swept away by floods, the Radio Free Asia cited Caritas Germany as saying via its homepage of late.

Typhoon Lionrock smashed the province in early September, which North Korean news outlets earlier said left nearly 70,000 residents homeless. More than 130 North Koreans were also reportedly dead and about 400 missing in the North's worst-ever flood.

North Korea had presented an empty lot in flood-stricken Yonsa County in the province as a place for the clinic, and a Caritas delegation recently inspected it, the broadcaster said.

The German organization plans to provide construction materials as soon as possible, according to the broadcaster.  (Yonhap)
