MADRID (AFP) -- The highly-anticipated return to stage of star German tenor Jonas Kaufmann this month has been delayed again for health reasons, Madrid’s opera house announced Friday.

“The tenor Jonas Kaufmann has been forced to cancel the recital planned for Tuesday, Nov. 22, for health reasons,” the Teatro Real said in a statement.

Just a day ago, the opera house had detailed what the 47-year-old was due to sing -- pieces by Robert Schumann, Henri Duparc, Franz Liszt and Richard Strauss.

Kaufmann was forced to pull out of a Paris production of “The Tales of Hoffmann” last month, explaining he needed rest to allow ruptured blood vessels in his vocal chords to heal.

The hugely popular singer was also forced to cancel his appearance in “The Mastersingers of Nuremberg” in Munich and another recital in the French capital.

And in January, Kaufmann also pulled out of Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” for health reasons.

“I am very sorry that the cancellations have been the cause of so much disappointment and frustration,” he wrote last month in a letter explaining why he had to temporarily stop singing.

Madrid’s Teatro Real said it “deeply regretted” the cancellation and that audience members would all be reimbursed.
