Poland's flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines has launched a direct flight between the Eastern European nation and South Korea, hoping to increase travel and investment between the two nations, the airline said Tuesday.

Starting Monday, LOT operates three flights a week between Warsaw Chopin Airport and Incheon International Airport using a 252-seat Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

It is LOT's third non-stop flight to Asia, following China in 2008 and Japan in January, it said.

In light of the direct flight, the Polish airline signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Tourism Organization on developing tour package programs in both countries.

To begin with, the state-run tourism agency invited about 30 journalists from Eastern European countries, including Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, to introduce major tourist attractions in Seoul on Wednesday.

"We need to diversify the inbound tourism market that has mainly focused on China and Japan," Kim Jung-ah, a KTO official, said. "We hope the direct flight between South Korea and Poland could help draw more travelers from Eastern European nations."

In 2014, about 70,000 South Koreans traveled to Poland and nearly 15,000 Polish visited here, according to the KTO.  (Yonhap)
