BOSTON (AP) -- A stage adaptation of the popular television show "Cheers" is kicking off a national tour in the city where it was set.
“Cheers on Stage” officially opens Monday at the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre in Boston. It will hit the road for 11 shows through Sept. 18.
The play is based on some of the most memorable moments of the celebrated TV show‘s first season. It features retired Red Sox pitcher and shameless lothario Sam Malone, pretentious waitress Diane Chambers, rotund barfly Norm Peterson and the rest of the regulars.
Some lucky members of the audience will be invited on stage to act as bar patrons.
The television series ran for 11 seasons from 1982 until 1993 and won 28 Emmys and six Golden Globes.
