Announcement-The Investor introduces AI journalism
By Korea HeraldPublished : Sept. 6, 2016 - 14:06
The Investor, the online English-language business news portal by Herald Corp., began providing articles written by an artificial intelligence writer Tuesday.
The company’s AI writer, named Herald Robot or HeRo, is the first to provide English-language business news written by an AI program in Korea.
HeRo will mainly focus on news regarding corporate performance and finance, stock markets as well as closely monitor changes in the shareholding structures of Korean companies. HeRo will initially provide 30 articles on a daily basis, further increasing the volume of stories provided by The Investor.
HeRo is capable of producing effectively an unlimited number of stories, and the volume of AI-written articles provided by The Investor will be increased eventually.
In addition, Herald Corp. plans to expand the use of HeRo to provide news on an on-demand basis.
“The idea is to provide 100,000 stories for each reader, rather than attracting 100,000 readers with a single story,” a Herald Corp. official said.
“HeRo will evolve into a provider of information tailored to each individual reader.”
Along with The Investor, the vernacular business daily The Herald Business will incorporate AI into its reporting within September. As with The Investor, The Herald Business will first focus on the stock market before expanding the application of the AI program to weather, sports, entertainment and other areas.
