The Korean Culture and Information Service has rolled out a new service to encourage people to report and fix incorrect information about Korea found in both online and offline outlets, including the internet, broadcast programs and print publications.

The Facts about Korea program, which was announced on Thursday, aims to enlist the help of both Korean citizens and foreigners to “contribute to correcting inaccuracies” about the country.

“Through this service, we hope that Korean citizens will be interested in actively participating in correctly portraying our country to the rest of the world,” said KOCIS director Kim Gab-soo in a statement. “We will continue to work on improving Korea’s image through various promotional activities.”

Anyone can report misleading descriptions about Korea through the official Facts about Korea website, or the FACTS: KOREA smartphone application. After receiving and reviewing the filed reports, KOCIS will take action to fix each issue by making official requests to the appropriate parties. Meanwhile, KOCIS will update the contributors on every step of the process.

Each resolved inaccuracy will be systematically monitored and tracked for up to three years.
