According to industry sources on Aug. 18, the Korean tech giant has recently added MCNEX as the secondary supplier of iris-recognition camera modules, joining Patron. Both are Korea-based firms.
MCNEX has started shipments from this month to Samsung’s smartphone plants in Vietnam and China. Sources said there are no other camera module-makers for the Note 7 currently.
The iris-recognition camera is a key feature of the new Note phone that started official sales on Aug. 19 in key markets such as Korea, the US and China. Preorders reached nearly 400,000 units in Korea alone, while customers who didn’t make preorders will likely be required to wait one or two weeks to get the phone.
