A U.S. servicewoman affiliated with the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division has been found dead at her house near Seoul for unknown reasons, police said Monday.

Police said the husband of the 28-year-old soldier found her dead at their off-base quarters in the city of Dongducheon, some 40 kilometers north of Seoul, around 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Her death is under investigation.

The husband, who is also a U.S. soldier stationed in South Korea, reported her death to the 119 emergency and rescue service through the help of their neighbor. At the time of the report, the husband was inebriated, according to police.

The female solder was lying on the floor with her ears bleeding when rescuers arrived at the apartment. But she had no external injuries, indicating she had suffered from an assault, they said.

Police picked up a case of pills, which she had taken for treating depression, from the scene and will commit her body to the National Forensic Service for an autopsy.

About 28,500 U.S. soldiers are stationed in South Korea as a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War, which ended in a truce, not a peace treaty. (Yonhap)
