Incheon International Airport said Tuesday that it hit new records for the number of flights and passengers it serviced in one day.

On Sunday, Incheon International Airport served 1,020 flights carrying 188,263 passengers, according to the airport corporation. They are the highest numbers on record since the airport opened in 2001, with the number of passengers flying during the summer vacation season growing 26.5 percent just over the past year.

Over the past 15 years, the number of flights has grown steadily at about 7 percent per year. In 2016, the average number of flights per day is 901 as of June.

Incheon International Airport said that there are just 30 airports in the world that service more than 1,000 daily flights in 14 different countries, with half of those airports in the U.S.

The airport is planning to bring in cutting-edge systems to prepare for further increases in air traffic in the future, including an Air Traffic Flow Management system and the Airport Collaborative Decision Making system.
