[THE INVESTOR] Hyundai Mobis has built a central logistics center in Belgium to serve as the logistics hub in Europe, it announced on July 20.

Spread over 56,000m² in Beringen in northern Belgium, the center will receive parts daily and distribute them to regional centers in UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Hungary.

South Korea’s largest auto parts supplier has been delivering motor parts for after service three times a week by air to all the centers, but with the center as the hub, the lead time for delivery will shorten to two days, and the cost for logistics and inventory will be saved, according to the company.

The logistics center will help revamp the logistics system as it will store parts with low circulation that have been dispersed around regional centers, and let them stock more parts in higher demand.

To meet the growing demand in accordance with the increasing number of cars from Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors in Europe, Hyundai MOBIS plans to set up more logistics base in addition to existing seven large logistics centers.

The number of cars from the two South Korean makers running in Europe as of 2015 was 8.6 million, doubling from 10 years ago, and the sales in H1 has risen 13.5 percent on-year.
