Tongyeong, one of the country's leading music cities, has prepared a series of colorful concerts for the autumn, the Tongyeong International Music Foundation said Monday.

"We'll provide nine concerts at the Tongyeong Concert Hall from Sept. 4 to the end of October," a foundation official said.

On Sept. 4, Korea's Novous Quartet and Son Yeol-eum, who won the silver medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition 2011, will perform Shostakovitch's String Quartet No. 8 in G Major and Piano Quartet in g minor. Son also received the Best Chamber Concerto Performances and the Best Performance of the Commissioned Work at the competition.

On Sept. 9, world-renowned Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos and a TIMF ensemble will play a Mozart violin concerto, Haydn's Symphony No. 83 in g minor and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4, according to the official.

Korean violinist Cho Jin-joo will perform Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Brahms with a southwestern German orchestra on Sept. 25, and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra led by Daniel Hope will perform on Oct. 10.

On Oct. 23, Korean violinist Choi Ye-eun, whom German violinist Anne Sophie Mutter extolled, will play with Hannover NDR Philharmonic Orchestra on Oct. 23, the official said.

Paris-based, world-renowned Ensemble InterContemporain will also join the music fest on Oct. 28, the official said.

Tongyeong, about 480 kilometers south of Seoul, is famous for the Tongyeong International Music Festival, which was launched to celebrate Yun Isang, a world-famous composer, who was born in the southern coastal city in 1917.

The city plans to hold a grand music festival on the occasion of Yun's 100th birthday next year, the official added.  (Yonhap)
