The second Sinchon Beer Festival will take place on Thursday and Friday in Sinchon’s main street, which stretches from Sinchon Station exits three and four to the front gate of Yonsei University.
Hallyu star Song Joong-ki of the hit drama “Descendants of the Sun” will make an appearance at the festival opening as a face for distiller Hite-Jinro, which is sponsoring the festival.
The company had said on Facebook two weeks ago that it would set up an artificial beach at the festival and invite Song to the beer festival if it received at least 10,000 “likes” for its announcement. The number of “likes” surpassed 20,000 within two days.
The two-day festival opens from 7 p.m. on Thursday and tickets can be purchased on-site. It may be postponed if it rains.
The street will be transformed to resemble a sandy beach.
There will be few snacks available at the festival, however, visitors can have food delivered from nearby eateries.
On another weekend, a huge water-gun fight festival was held in Sinchon’s main street. There was even a real fire truck, a giant inflatable water slide and a DJ deck -- shaped like a pirate ship -- that played electronic dance music.
The first Sinchon Beer Festival took place in October 2015. The event was listed in the Korea Records Institute for holding the record of 3,619 beer glasses simultaneously involved in a toast.
