[THE INVESTOR] South Korea’s largest conglomerate Samsung Group has picked 12 university research projects in the three categories of artificial intelligence, fast charging battery cell, and exterior materials for IT devices -- as a part of its future technology support program.

Among them, six involve developing the latest AI and deep learning technologies, while three are focused on battery technology. The rest will be studying exterior materials for IT devices.

The projects in the AI segment include self-driving technology, which will be led by Lim Jong-woo of Hanyang University. Deep learning will be applied to developing an autonomous flying robot led by Choi Young-sik of Korea Aerospace University.

For IT materials, led by Kim Do-hyang of Yonsei University, the project will focus on developing self-healing materials.

Every year, Samsung picks and supports new research projects it finds would help accelerate technology innovation.
