Korea has been projected by a U.S. sports data analysis firm to win 10 gold medals for a ninth-place finish at this year's Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics.

Gracenote, based in Emeryville, California, said Korea will win 10 gold, five silver and 10 bronze medals in its latest Virtual Medal Table. In its previous update on June 7, Gracenote projected 11 gold, five silver and eight bronze for Korea.

Korea has set out to capture at least 10 gold medals in Rio to finish in the top 10 in the medals for the fourth consecutive Summer Games.

Gracenote predicted South Korea will sweep up all four archery gold medals at stake -- the men's and women's individual and team titles. Based on its projection, pistol shooter Jin Jong-oh will capture both the men's 10m air pistol and 50m pistol for the second straight Olympics.

Other projected Olympic champions are Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong in the men's badminton doubles, Lee Dae-hoon in the men's 68kg division in taekwondo, An Ba-ul in the men's 66kg judo and An Chang-rim in the men's 73kg judo.

Gracenote said the United States will top the medal standings with 41 gold, followed by China with 31 and Russia with 20.

Host Brazil will finish right behind South Korea with eight gold medals, including one from men's football, Gracenote said. (Yonhap)
