NEW DELHI (Yonhap) -- The South Korean Embassy in Bangladesh said Saturday it has found no South Koreans in the on-going hostage standoff in Dhaka, the capital city, but it will continue to keep a watchful eye on the situation.
A group of nine armed gunmen attacked a Dhaka-based restaurant late Friday, taking around 30 staff and customers as hostages.
“We have made contact with South Korean communities and companies, but no one has been reported missing,” an embassy official said. “But as the local police have not yet announced the nationalities of the hostages, we are currently making efforts to find out more details.”
The restaurant is located only about 700 meters from the South Korean Embassy, it added. Local reports said at least two police have been killed.
