Korean football club the Jeonnam Dragons said Thursday they have signed Brazilian forward Jair Eduardo Britto da Silva.
Jeonnam -- currently 10th in the top-flight K League Classic with three wins, six draws and eight losses -- said the 28-year-old attacker will fill the void left by Macedonian striker Stevica Ristic, who was recently released from his contract by mutual agreement.
Jeonnam, the three-time champions of the Korean Football Association Cup, have yet to disclose the details of Jair's contract.
Jair will return to the K League for the first time since 2012.
He previously played with Jeju United for two seasons, recording 20 goals and 11 assists in 55 matches. He played in Japan and the United Arab Emirates after leaving Korea.
"I'm happy to be back in the K League," Jair said through Jeonnam's press release. "I will make my utmost effort for Jeonnam to achieve their goals."
Jeonnam hope Jair will boost their offense. The club, owned by Korean top steelmaker POSCO, have scored 18 goals in 17 league matches this season, the fourth worst among 12 clubs. Jair, known for his speed and dribble penetration, can play as a wing forward or a striker.
Jeonnam recently signed Australia-born defender Tomislav Mrcela to reinforce their defense. But the club could see a departure of Croatian midfielder Mislav Orsic, rumored to be on his way out to Chinese club Changchun Yatai. (Yonhap)
