Korea on Wednesday condemned the terror attacks that happened in Turkey, vowing that it will keep working with the international community in eradicating terrorism.

On Tuesday (local time) suicide bombers attacked Istanbul's Ataturk airport leaving more than 30 people dead and nearly 150 injured. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

"Our government cannot but express our shock and worry that a number of innocent people lost their lives to the terror attacks at Istanbul's Ataturk airport," the foreign ministry said in a spokesperson's statement.

While delivering its condolences to the victims, their families and the Turkish people and government, the ministry reaffirmed its stance that terror attacks cannot be justified no matter what and vowed to keep working with the international community to eradicate terrorism.

Meanwhile, a ministry official said that the consulate general in Istanbul is currently working on confirming whether any Korean nationals were killed or injured by reaching its people through the emergency contact network.

There have been no confirmed cases of Korean nationals being killed or hurt by the attacks, he added.

The consulate general has been running an emergency task force since the terror attack happened. It also has sent a text message alert to Koreans visiting or living in the country.

Turkey is a major tourist destination for Koreans with around 200,000 estimated to visit the country every year. (Yonhap)
