Korea's first late-night duty-free shop opened Friday at the heart of its major shopping district frequented by foreign tourists.

The Doota Duty Free Shop (DFS) began its operations, offering a wide range of duty-free goods from nearly 500 major brands.

The new shop is located near the Dongdaemun market, a traditional market turned into a fashion mecca.

The Doota shop not only offers easy access to those wishing to shop tax-free by being close to a fashion town already frequented by locals and foreign tourists alike but also offers late-night operation hours that will allow shoppers to do what they enjoy the most until well past midnight.

The DFS uses nine floors of the 34-story Doosan Mall, with seven floors of the nine open as of Friday.

Each floor has a different list of goods, as well as different operation hours, and some of them will stay open until as late as 2 a.m., according to company officials.

An official, full opening of the DFS will be held later in the year, they said. (Yonhap)
