Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Mong-koo held talks with Jiangsu province Gov. Shi Taifeng at the company’s headquarters in southern Seoul for closer business partnership with one of the most popular Chinese destinations for Korean investors, the group said Monday.

Chairman Chung and other Hyundai high-level officials, including his son and Hyundai Motor vice chairman Chung Eui-sun, guided the Chinese provincial leader. 

“During his stay, the Chinese delegation had a brief session to learn about Hyundai’s vision for eco-cars, including hybrid vehicles,’’ a company spokesperson said.

The newly-elected Chinese official is on his four-day business trip to Korea, aimed at discussing ways to enhance trade and investments between Korea and the eastern Chinese province in various sectors. Previously, Shi had served as deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China Jiangsu Provincial Committee.

The Korean automotive giant has presence in Jiangsu province. Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor, a joint venture between Kia Motor, Dongfeng Motor and Yueda, is located in in Yancheng and its annual production capacity reaches out to 890,000 units. 


“The group head discussed ways to expand business ties with the visiting Jiangsu province leader, while exchanging views on the latest trends of the auto industry,’’ the company said in a statement. The Chinese official expressed his high interest in Hyundai and Kia eco-car lineup, it added.
