Rock singer Lee Seung-hwan showcased his new song “The Signal of One Billion Light-years" at a concert held at Ewha Womans University Samsung Hall on Thursday.
The song is a slow-tempo modern rock tune featuring the dramatic sound of an orchestra. The track will be included in his upcoming 11th full studio album, “Fall to Fly - Latter.”
The song has garnered attention with its chorus line “Let’s go home now, don’t stay alone in the cold,” which seems to console the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster.
Lee also put up banners with the message, “Let’s go home now -- Seung-hwan” in Jongno, Hongdae and Itaewon in Seoul from a week before the second anniversary of the disaster on April 16. He held a concert for the victims at Gwanghwamun Plaza on April 9.
At a press conference that preceded the concert, Lee denied that the lyrics were written with the victims in mind. “The song is about missing someone, but how to interpret it depends entirely on those who listen to it. If it consoles someone suffering from the disaster, that's great, even though I didn’t intend it,” said Lee.
