GS Caltex is bolstering its safety management in its facilities to fulfill its commitment to creating safe environment at workplaces, company officials said Tuesday.

The nation’s second-largest oil refiner has pushed for a safety-first management since its vice chairman Huh Jin-soo pledged to strive to check every small process to ensure employee safety last year.

Under the management, new employees have a mandatory 60-hour safety training course and every employee should participate in the company’s safety first leadership program, company officials said.

Furthermore, the firm’s Yeosu Refinery complex, the fourth-largest in the world in South Jeolla Province, has over 90 safety professionals and 200 employees on watch for fire accidents. In addition, it owns different emergency vehicles that go through over 50 emergency practice drills a year.

GS Caltex had previously created a chief safety officer under the direct supervision of the CEO in 2014 to regulate safety levels and investigate accidents caused by poor safety standards. The company also created a safety training center in Yeosu in 2013 for employees to undergo artificial accident training.
