CJ Korea Express expands presence in global cargo delivery market

CJ Korea Express, the shipping unit of South Korean conglomerate CJ Group, is expanding its presence in the global cargo delivery market by securing major deals with clients around the world and partaking in global construction projects.
In January, CJ secured a deal with GS Engineering & Construction to deliver its equipment to be used in building the Socar Turkey Aegean Refinery, to the Port of Aliaga in western Turkey, the company said.

On Mar. 14, CJ’s cargo delivery vessel carrying heavyweight equipment, including a fractionator weighing the same as roughly 670 passenger vehicles, took off from Ulsan.
After stopping by Japan’s Port of Higashi-Harima, the vessel took off to for Turkey on Mar. 20, carrying some 3,200 tons in cargo. The delivery is set for completion within mid-April, CJ said.
The STAR Refinery Project, aimed at building a crude oil refinery complex in the Izmir region of Turkey, is being carried out by a multinational consortium including GS E&C. The project is reportedly worth some 3.85 trillion won ($3.33 billion).
In addition to partaking in the STAR project, CJ Korea Express became the first Korean shipping company to secure a contract with Japan-based JGC in 2014 to deliver construction equipment for building the Jizan Refinery in Saudi Arabia.
Since 2011, CJ has also been in charge of delivering nuclear power plant construction equipment for the first Korea-led nuclear plant construction project in the United Arab Emirates. The project is set for completion in 2020.
“From nuclear plants and oil refineries to desalination plants, we are equipped with the necessary delivery infrastructure and knowhow in successfully completing mega delivery projects,” said a CJ Korea Express official.
“’We will continue to strive to become a leader in the industry and to drive up our presence in the global cargo delivery market.”
