Korean software developer Tmax said Monday it would roll out a new operating system for personal computers, called TmaxOS, in a bid to increase its presence in the PC OS market, which has long been dominated by Microsoft’s Windows.

Deploying a set of Unix technology standards, TmaxOS boasts a high level of software security and a better user interface than any other PC OS available on the market, according to the firm.

“A lot of problems have surfaced in the domestic OS market due to the near monopoly of a certain OS product,” said Park Hak-rae, the chief executive of TmaxOS, a subsidiary of Tmax and the developer behind the new OS.

“The TmaxOS will offer a wide range of choices,” he added.

The launch event of the TmaxOS will be held at Coex in southeast Seoul on April 2, with details of the OS to be unveiled at the event. The company also plans to introduce a new web browser at the same event.

The OS developer was established in December in line with Tmax’s push into the PC OS market.
