The upcoming TV series "My Lawyer, Mr. Jo" will follow a prosecutor's search for justice in a world where the rich get richer and the poor even poorer, producers said Wednesday.

Starring actor Park Shin-yang and actress Kang So-ra, the riches-to-rags story based on a web cartoon series will inherit KBS 2TV's Monday-Tuesday night time slots from "Babysitter," which flopped with a viewing rate of 3.5 percent.

With another KBS 2TV drama, "Descendants of the Sun," making a splash in South Korea and China, producer Lee Jung-seob said Wednesday he hopes to ride that momentum and contribute to the state broadcaster's growing arsenal of dramas to compete with cable channels.

"It's true the Monday-Tuesday night dramas on KBS have been struggling as of late," he told reporters at a press conference in Seoul. "I think people are getting tired of the cookie-cutter dramas on terrestrial networks after watching a diversity of shows on cable channels. We're trying to break the mold by experimenting with visual expressions and character development."

In "My Lawyer, Mr. Jo," prosecutor Jo Deul-ho (Park Shin-yang) is wrongfully convicted of corruption after he tries to investigate suspected graft within the prosecution organization. The conviction drives him to a divorce and homelessness, but Jo -- a self-made man whose highest education is high school and who passed the bar with the highest score in the country -- remains dogged in his pursuit of justice and starts taking on cases no other would: representing the poor.

Meanwhile, working with Jo inspires Lee Eun-jo (Kang So-ra), a 20-something lawyer at the prestigious law firm Geumseong, and leads her to question what it truly means to be a lawyer.

"My Lawyer, Mr. Jo" premieres on KBS 2TV at 10 p.m. on Monday. (Yonhap)
