South Korea's TV hit "Descendants of the Sun" has become the most-searched latest TV series on a U.S.-based global video-streaming site in the Americas, the service said Wednesday.
The 16-episode series has been shown exclusively by Viki (www.viki.com) in the region for the past four weeks. With the first eight episodes uploaded, it has become the most-searched of the world's 50 latest TV series available on the site, the service provider said.
The Korean show is currently available with subtitles in 32 different languages, Viki added.
The popularity is meaningful in that it is the first show provided by Viki on a paid-only basis.
Viki, however, refused to reveal the exact number of the show's viewers, citing company policy.
"Descendants of the Sun" is about a doctor and an army captain who fall in love as they try to save lives in the fictional war-torn country of Uruk.
Since it was first aired on Feb. 24 in both South Korea and China, the drama has been gaining huge popularity in the two nations, as well as other Asian countries, including Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. (Yonhap)
