The ruling party's approval rating has edged down due to a factional battle over the nominations for next month's parliamentary elections, while the main opposition party gained some support, a poll showed Monday.

The findings released by local pollster Realmeter showed 41.5 percent of people approved of how the ruling Saenuri Party is doing as of last week, down 2 percentage points from a week earlier.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea's approval rating sat at 28.3 percent, up a marginal 0.5 percentage points.

The poll attributed the dip for Saenrui to the party's exclusion of veteran lawmakers from getting the party ticket for the April 13 election. Heavyweights such as Rep. Lee Jae-oh failed to win party tickets for the elections.

The party has been split between those who are loyal to President Park Geun-hye and their opponents over how to select candidates for the upcoming polls.

The splinter opposition People's Party received 12.3 percent support the Realmeter poll showed, up 1.2 percentage points from a week earlier.

The telephone survey was conducted on 2,524 adults between Monday and Friday last week and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. (Yonhap)
