President Park Geun-hye on Wednesday visited South Korea's second-largest city of Busan ahead of the parliamentary elections.

Park met the heads of small companies at an innovation center in Busan before moving to different facilities where fishery products are processed.

The trip to the innovation center in Busan is the latest in a tour meant to boost to startups and small companies.

Last week, Park visited another innovation center in the southeastern industrial city of Daegu, Park's political powerbase.

South Korea has set up a total of 17 innovation centers across the country to match up local startups and venture firms with conglomerates, which can provide resources to smaller companies so that they can turn creative ideas into real businesses.

The latest trip came amid political infighting in Park's ruling Saenuri Party over who will win the party's nomination for the April 13 parliamentary elections.

The ruling party has been divided between those who are loyal to Park and others who have been at odds with the president. (Yonhap)
