South Korea’s leading automaker Hyundai Motor saw its market share in Brazil hit an all-time monthly high in January, industry data showed Tuesday.

The ratio surpassed Hyundai Motor’s previous market share in Brazil, which had been at 9.1 percent as of October last year.
The figures were more significant, industry sources said, as they come amid a 38.6 percent plunge in overall car sales in January compared to the previous year.
The HB20 hatchback, a model that it developed to target local customers, was one of the main drivers behind Hyundai’s increased market share.
The South Korean carmaker sold 8,988 units of the HB20, the second best-selling model in Brazil.
