Hyundai Motor and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors saw sales in China fall over 20 percent in January, industry data showed Wednesday.

The two South Korean carmakers sold a total of 122,486 vehicles in China, down 22.3 percent from the same month a year earlier, according to the Yonhap news agency, citing data it secured independently.

Separately, Hyundai Motor’s sales fell 27.2 percent on-year to 75,236 units, while Kia Motors’ sales contracted 13 percent to 47,250 units.

The figures may be adjusted later as they are preliminary results, the sources said.

On Monday, Hyundai Motor said its overseas sales declined 14.3 percent in January from a year earlier. Kia Motors’ sales abroad fell 18.8 percent.

In 2015, the carmakers sold a combined 1,678,922 cars in China, down 4.9 percent from a year earlier. It was the first on-year drop since 2007, when sales fell about 18 percent.
