Hanwha Group is continuing its commitment to nurturing future Nobel Prize candidates with scientific talent through its social outreach program.

The group said Friday that it had invited 10 finalists of last year’s Hanwha Science Challenge, an annual competition between local scientific prodigies organized by the group, to a tour of advanced scientific institutions in Europe.

The Hanwha Science Challenge, launched by Hanhwa in 2011, is Korea’s largest science competition, and has a focus on saving the Earth.

The invited youths visited Hanwha Q CELLS operations in Germany and the European Organization for Nuclear Research and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, home to 21 Nobel laureates, in Switzerland from Jan. 25 to 29.

The students were also able to visit the German city of Freiburg, known for its advanced environmental practices, to personally see how eco-friendly energy was used in everyday city life.

Winners of the competition received 40 million won ($33,200) in prize money and the opportunity to tour scientific institutions abroad.
