Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival
Hwacheon in Gangwon Province, known for its rivers, lake trout, and natural scenery, is holding the “Sancheoneo (mountain trout) Ice Festival” this month.
The festival features sancheoneo experiences such as ice fishing, lure fishing, and fishing with bare hands.
Those who catch sancheoneo can ask to have it grilled or sliced into sashimi at the festival’s food centers.
State-run rail operator KORAIL is providing day-trip packages for this festival until Jan. 31.

Catch trouts in Pyeongchang
Tourists can enjoy catching trouts with their bare hands through holes in the ice and enjoy the delicacy of raw or cooked rainbow trouts at the 9th Pyeongchang Trout Festival.
The festival is being held at Odaecheon of Mount. Odaesan in Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang County, Gangwon Province, until Jan. 31.
Aside from ice fishing and lure fishing, visitors can enjoy a variety of other winter sports and traditional folk games including sledding, top spinning, snow rafting, sleigh trains, and riding four-wheel ATVs.

Lotte Hotel Jeju’s ‘He:on Illumination’
Lotte Hotel Jeju is holding “He:on Illumination Event,” nighttime swimming with LED bubble lights, from Feb. 1 to March 17 at 8 p. m. for 2 hours a day.
The glow-in-the-dark swimming bubbles will create a fantasy of swimming in the starry sky.
In celebration of this event, the hotel is offering “He:on Illumination Package,” which includes Deluxe Lake room for a night, breakfast and fitness club vouchers at 350,000 won.
