South Korean cosmetics maker Tonymoly said Thursday it will invest $25 million to build a production line in China.

The factory will be built in the eastern province of Zheziang next year and start mass production in 2017 to better reach Chinese customers.

"The facility will improve the price competitiveness of our cosmetic products," the company said in a regulatory filing.

Tonymoly has made an aggressive foray into China since its first launch last year, operating about 40 shops in major cities.

The company said it will also establish a local branch as part of its global expansion strategy.

Tonymoly, South Korea's seventh-largest cosmetics brand by sales, has been stepping up its overseas bid after going public on the Seoul bourse in August to tap deeper into China for new growth beyond the saturated domestic beauty market.

Tonymoly has posted double-digit growth since its establishment in 2006 and has about 1,800 shops in 20 nations, including Hong Kong, the United States and Russia. (Yonhap)
