South Korea's major retailers are set to kick off another massive sales event on Friday to attract customers with aggressive discounts on various items for nearly a month through the year-end holiday season.
The Federation of Distribution Industry said 72 companies, both in stores and online, will offer huge discounts on their stockpiles across the board during the 26-day sales event called "K-Sale Day."
K-Sale Day begins one week before "Black Friday", the biggest sales event in the United States that raises astronomical sales during the Thanksgiving Holiday season.
The latest sales event follows Korea's equivalent of Black Friday last month, which the government initiated to boost lackluster domestic consumption.
Among manufacturers, top tech firm Samsung Electronics Co. will join the event to knock down price tags on major home appliances, including televisions, refrigerators and washing machines.
Traditional markets will also hold a variety of festivals and promotional events nationwide starting from Nov. 27, the federation said, noting the government will support the events to help attract more customers. (Yonhap)
