Showing off their advanced technologies, Korean electronics giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have bagged a clutch of awards at the CES Innovation Awards, an annual competition program honoring outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products.

The award-winning products will be displayed at the International CES 2016, one of the world’s largest electronics trade shows, to be held in Las Vegas from Jan. 6-9.
Boasting its prowess in the mobile segment, Samsung picked up 12 awards in the sector for its top-notch smartphones and wearables released this year, including the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, featuring a curved display, the Galaxy Note 5 phablet with a stylus, virtual reality goggle Gear VR and round-face smartwatch Gear S2
It also earned nine awards for TV products, seven for home appliances and five for semiconductor technologies.
Samsung, which has long been basking in its status as a leading electronics maker, has been recognized for its Internet of Things technology, which enables objects to communicate with other objects or users though networks.
The company won an award for its smart sleep manager Sleep Sense, which can be placed under a mattress to detect and analyze sleep patterns.
The Sleep Sense garnered positive market reviews when it was first released at the IFA electronics trade show in Germany in September.
Samsung’s compatriot LG grabbed awards for its innovative products in 10 categories including home appliances, smart home and wireless handsets.
LG’s 77-inch (196-centimeter) 4K organic light-emitting diode TV and Twin Wash washing machine featuring two washing tubs, one on top and the other on bottom, were among those that made the list of innovative products.
“From our revolutionary OLED TVs to the groundbreaking Twin Wash and everything in between, LG continues to deliver products that make consumers’ lives easier. We look forward to introducing our new products at CES in January,” said William Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics USA in a press release.
It was the fourth straight year the company won an innovation award at the CES for its flagship OLED TV models.
Mobile SK Telecom was also honored with an innovation award for its UO Smart Beam Laser, a cubic pico projector, featuring a high level of eye protection tech and a built-in battery and speaker.
“SK Telecom is proud to be bestowed with an award, as it recognizes our efforts to go beyond telecommunications to create greater values for our customers,” said Park Chol-soon, head of SKT’s convergence business office.
The annual competition, organized by the Consumer Electronics Association, began in 1976 and honors outstanding design and engineering in 27 categories spanning electronics to the smart home.
