Hyundai Motor, South Korea’s leading automaker, has joined hands with London-based art gallery Tate Modern to showcase the work of Mexican conceptual artist and sculptor Abraham Cruzvillegas.

The company held a ceremony at the Tate Modern on Tuesday to mark the opening of its inaugural exhibit “Hyundai Commission 2015,” which will display “Empty Lot,” an installation artwork by Cruzvillegas, at the gallery starting from Wednesday and going until April 3.

Hyundai is holding the exhibit as part of a long-term partnership with Tate Modern struck in January in line with its ongoing efforts to contribute to the development and expansion of modern art, the company said.

“We hope that ‘Hyundai Commission 2015’ can propose new possibilities in the world of modern art and allow more people to experience and share the values of innovation,” said Hyundai Motor vice chairman Chung Eui-sun.

“Hyundai Commission 2015” is a new exhibit which will feature a series of site-specific installations by contemporary artists in Tate Modern’s iconic Turbine Hall, which has hosted some of the world’s most highly acclaimed works of contemporary art.

Starting with the Cruzvillegas exhibit, Hyundai plans to select one renowned international artist and display his or her installation artwork at the hall every year over the next 10 years.

Meanwhile, Hyundai has also partnered with Korea’s National Museum of Contemporary Art as well as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as part of its push to support the arts on a more global scale.

“As an international brand, Hyundai Motor is looking to help modern art develop and communicate with the larger public,” said a company official.
