FRANKFURT, Germany -- Renault Samsung, the Korean unit of French carmaker Renault, announced a plan Wednesday to launch the Talisman, Renault’s new and upscale midsize sedan, in Korea in the first half of next year to revive its presence in one of the most competitive segments.

The company also said the new sedan will be manufactured in its Busan plant.

“With the local production, we expect to add more convenient options to the new saloon for Korean customers,” Park Dong-hoon, sales and marketing chief at Renault Samsung, said during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show that kicked off Tuesday.

The company has yet to decide whether to change the name of the Talisman to SM6 in Korea. The sedan, whose length is 4.85 meters, is between the midsize sedan SM5 and larger SM7 in size.

The Talisman sedan, based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s common module family platform, is one of the strategic models for Renault to go upscale.

The company said the vehicle is the first sedan in its segment to offer four-wheel steering, dubbed as the “4-control system.” It also comes with adaptive dampers for variable ride quality.
