South Korea and Vietnam agreed Friday to reinforce bilateral cooperation on international peacekeeping operations, capitalizing on their deepening security ties, the Defense Ministry said Friday.

The two sides signed a related memorandum of understanding at a meeting between Vice Defense Minister Baek Seung-joo and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Chi Vinh.

It calls for the strengthening of "substantial cooperation' in the education, workshop, and dispatch of experts in connection with PKO, according to the ministry.

In the fourth South Korea-Vietnam strategic military dialogue, Baek and Vinh also discussed partnerships in cybersecurity and defense training as well as security conditions on the Korean Peninsula and in Southeast Asia, it added.

The Vietnamese official is on a trip here to attend the three-day Seoul Defense Dialogue that opened on Wednesday.

The ministry said the strategic talks served as a chance to reaffirm defense ties between the two countries especially following Defense Minister Han Min-koo's visit to Hanoi in May. (Yonhap)
