The state-run Korea Productivity Center has joined hands with U.K.-based education and media giant Pearson to implement a new English language proficiency exam in Korea in a bid to boost the global competitiveness of local companies.

KPC signed an official partnership deal with Pearson last Friday to introduce the EPro Exam, or the English for Professionals Exam -- a business English language proficiency test developed by Pearson -- to the Korean business community.

The EPro Exam measures English speaking, listening, reading and writing proficiency, and is specialized for business communication, setting itself apart from other well-known standardized English exams like the TOEFL, TEPS or TOEIC.

In addition to administering the exam, KPC is planning to offer specialized training and exam preparation services to companies in differing sectors, aiming to provide tailored support for each industry.

A mobile version of the exam has been launched in the country as well for easier accessibility and use, KPC said.

“We will continue to strive to help not only big companies, but also small and medium-sized firms in Korea grow into global companies through the EPro Exam and further educational services,” said KPC chairman and CEO Hong Soon-jick.
